Jeaneth's Journey

This indigenous scholar moved to Quito, Ecuador, in search of a better education. Now she’s on her way to teaching the next generation.

When Jeaneth moved from her village to the city, the change was hard. She’s a member of the Puruhá indigenous people of Ecuador – a community that has struggled for equality in the past. Despite the challenges ahead, her parents wanted to give her the greatest gift they could: access to a better education.

Now, with help from Unbound, she's only a few months away from earning her degree in natural and environmental sciences, biology and chemistry from the Central University of Ecuador and realizing her dream of becoming a teacher.

"I want to be a teacher who can guide her students well,” Jeaneth says. “I could help them to keep their dreams from breaking."
